Among many interesting flavour descriptions of the stunning Sed de Cana was 'tea leaf' as well as 'chocolate' recently in a Ribera del Duero tasting at Decanter magazine.

An illustrious Decanter judging panel have awarded Sed de Cana 2005 5 stars in the November issue and this impressive top Ribera has also been admitted to the Wines of the Year December Edition. A great acheivement for this still young operation. Bodegas y Vinedos del Jaro produce Sed de Cana (thirst of Canaan) in tiny quantities. 2,000 bottles come from vineyards making up one small corner of the Estates top vineyards.

Everything here is manually harvested and hand crafted. The wine itself never touched stainless steel and is fermented in barrels. Amy Hopkinson on the judging panel commented: 'Smoky oak with tea leaf and chocolate. Fresh, mineral acidity, balanced with brambly red fruit and well-handled and well integrated oak. From 2009"

The 2005 vintage is available now. If you don't want to wait until 2009 and there is no reason why you have to, you can also order the equally impressive 2004 vintage of which some limited stocks still remain.

One of the worlds best and well-known international hotels has selected de 2 Mencia for its wine list. This D.O Bierzo (Castilla y Leon) wine is a young red made from 100% Mencia from 2007’s vintage.
Called de 2, from Mencías De Dos S.L winery, it was created by the talented Spanish winemaker Ricardo Sanz. It was awarded the Gold Medal recently by the II Concurso de Vinos del Noroeste competition. A challenging competition where nearly 200 wine cellars from Castilla y Leon, Galicia, Asturias and the North of Portugal participate.
de 2 presents an intense lively plum/purple colour and displays a great varietal character of this grape which is gaining recognition across Europe. de 2 has been selected by the Caliga restaurant in the Intercontinental Hotel (*****+) of Dusseldorf. A restaurant that, is apparently known to serve “the sexiest food in the city”, and attracts a wide following of fine cuisine devotees.
“Liver’s goose cake with a green almond brioche” is one of the matched menu options to enjoy de 2’s wine with.
