Gran Gesta Rosado

Wine Producer:

Covides

Winemaker:

Felix Parellada

Winemaking:

The wine is made with a secondary fermentation in bottle. A system known as ‘methode champenoise’. While Dom Perignon did work tirelessly and successfully to improve the quality and renown of the still wines of Champagne, he did not invent sparkling wine, nor was he the first to make champagne. Sparkling wine was first intentionally produced by English scientist and physician Christopher Merret at least 30 years before the work of Dom Perignon. After the secondary fermentation in bottle, Gran Gesta is laid down for a minimum of 9 months to rest and develop before sale.

Covides, with its 800 associates, is the most important wine cooperative in Catalonia. It is a progressive, modern company, reflected in its growth and recognition. This delightful Cava from the high Penedès region of Spain, close to Barcelona, is bottle fermented using the famous “method Champenoise” technique, as are all the top quality Cavas.

The coop controls some 3000 hectares in 50 different municipalities and produces an average of 25 million kilos 92% of which is white. The Trepat variety is wonderful yet relatively rare. It is extremely full flavoured and is ideally blended with Garnacha. Trepat provides the delicious strawberry flavours of Gran Gesta Rosado.
